FRANKFORT, Ky. – On Saturday, January 22, 2011, Kentucky State's men's and women's basketball programs host rival Central State University. The battle, held at the Frankfort Convention Center, will begin with the women playing at 6 p.m. and end with the men at 8 p.m.
The game, a classic rivalry and full of the richness that embodies HBCU athletics, is sure to have the same intensity of years past as both Kentucky State and Central State focus on winning and having bragging rights until the rematch in February at Central State.
The Thorobrettes, with a current record of 8-5 (7-4 SIAC) and Thorobreds, who are 8-3 (8-3 SIAC) play Albany State on January 20 after taking a double-header from Fort Valley State on January 18. Both teams are currently ranked 4th in the SIAC; KSU's men also hold the 7th ranked position in the Boxtorow.com Top 10 National HBCU Division II/NAIA Basketball Poll.
“This rivalry is great for both schools, both Frankfort and Wilberforce and for all of HBCU sports,” said KSU Director of Athletics, Dr. Denisha L. Hendricks. “Competitions such as these not only draw the current student body and alumni, but also the community. This game is a wonderful opportunity for fans to support K-State basketball and experience black college sports at its best.”
