Head Volleyball Coach

Kyetta May enters her fourth season as Head Volleyball Coach for Kentucky State University volleyball program. May comes to KSU from Harris-Stowe State University where she was Head Volleyball Coach for two seasons. During May’s three previous seasons at KSU, the volleyball program was Western Division Champions three consecutive years and SIAC Runners-up the past two seasons.  In addition, she has coached nine All-Conference Selections, five All Tournament Team Selections and a Defensive Player of the Year.

May began her coaching career volunteering at East St. Louis Sr. High School and after several years in the Environmental Science field, she accepted a part-time position as the Head Volleyball Coach at Harris-Stowe State University. After two seasons of coaching at HSSU, she took the position of Junior Varsity Coach at Clayton High School. After one season of coaching at CHS, May was promoted to Head Varsity Coach, but May chose to accept the Head Volleyball Coach position at Kentucky State University.

A member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), the Missouri High School Athletic Association (MHSAA), the Council for Opportunity in Education Organization (COEO) and the Mid-America Association of Educational Opportunity Program Personnel (MAEOPP), May was named SIAC Coach of the Year in 2008.

May played college volleyball at Alabama A&M University for 4 seasons, 1998-2002 and was a member of two consecutive SWAC Championship teams (2000 & 2001). She served as team captain in 2001, was an Arthur Ash Jr. Sports Scholar and earned the AAMU Scholar Athlete award for 4 years. In 2000, May was named the Lady Speedstick Sportswoman of the Year and also the recipient of the Street & Smith, Eddie Robinson Awards.

May earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science with chemistry minor from Alabama A&M University in 2002 and her Master of Science degree in Education from Lindenwood University in 2009. Kyetta and her husband, Warren, have one daughter, Kyler.
