Served three season as Assistant Coach before being promoted to Interim Head Coach.
Most recently, Coach Hamilton led the 2021 KSU offense where they finished in the top 10 nationally in Division II in six different categories. Of those categories, they finished 2nd in rushing offense, 2nd in fewest intercepts, 3rd in yards per rush, 4th in yards per completion, 7th in 4th down conversion, and 9th in yards per play.
Additionally, the offense finished 27th nationally in scoring at 35.9 points per game. The offense also set university records for points in an away game (76), points in a home game (63), total yards in a game (746), and rush yards in a game (662).
From 2017 - 2019 Coach Hamilton served as an Associate Director of Player Personnel and Offensive Analyst for Coach Paul Johnson at Georgia Tech. While there he self-scouted the 2017-18’ Georgia Tech roster, evaluated new talent, planned and supervised the execution of the yearly recruiting calendar, and provided support to the staff and now former Head Coach Paul Johnson. Hamilton was a part of the Georgia Tech football team that played in the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl.
From 2007 - 2016, Coach Hamilton led Brevard College in the development of starting a football program and becoming a Division II member. Hamilton was nominated for the 2009/2010 Liberty Mutual Division II Coach of the Year as he led Brevard to it’s first winning season in school history as an NCAA member. Throughout his tenure, Hamilton’s offense was consistently one of the leading rushing football teams in Division II. Hamilton’s 2014 Brevard offense finished 6th nationally in rushing offense and 1st in red zone offense. Additionally, Brevard was among the nation’s best in fourth down conversions, yards per completion, and time of possession, averaging 30 points per game.
In 2006, Coach Hamilton returned back to the Air Force Academy as an offensive analyst and fullbacks coach under head coach Fisher DeBerry, who was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2011.
From 2004 - 2005, Coach Hamilton led Elon University's football program where he coached 7 All-Southern Conference players, 5 Southern Conference Athletes of the Month, 2 Academic All-Conference players, 1 Academic All-American, a 2004 National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete Award Winner, and the 2005 Southern Conference Defensive Player of the Year. In the 2004 season, Hamilton’s team won two Southern Conference victories for the first time in school history while only being in the 2nd year as a Southern Conference member.
From 1997 - 2003, Coach Hamilton led the East Tennessee State University football program where he most notably is recognized as the 3rd winningest coach in ETSU football history and holds the school record for most career SoCon victories.
In his first year at ETSU, the 1997 team ranked as high as 8th nationally, led the Southern Conference in total offense and total defense, and had the SoCon’s Male Athlete of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, and Freshman of the Year. Quarterback Todd Wells finished his East Tenneessee career as the all-time leader in the history of the Southern Conference, at that time, and went on to become a member of the ETSU Athletics Hall of Fame.
Among many other achievements, Hamilton coached ETSU to its first-ever win over a #1 ranked team and holds the title of the 1st coach in 69 years to have three consecutive winning seasons. The ETSU program had three wins over Division IAA top 10 ranked teams during Hamilton’s time as head coach. In Hamilton’s last season at ETSU, he was named the 2003 North East Tennessee Sports Person of the year.
From years 1990 - 1996, Hamilton was the quarterback coach at the Air Force Academy under Coach Fisher DeBerry. Most notably, Hamilton coached quarterback Beau Morgan who finished in the top 10 in the 1996 Heisman Trophy voting and was named 3rd Team All-American & Western Athletic Conference’s Pacific Division’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Hamilton served as the offensive play caller for two Division I top 25 teams at the Air Force Academy. He also coached quarterback Rob Perez, who led the Falcons to victories over Ohio State and Mississippi State in the 1990 and 1991 Liberty Bowls where he was the only two-time MVP in the history of the Liberty Bowl.
During Hamilton’s time on the coaching staff, the Air Force football team won the Commander In Chief’s trophy for six straight years. Hamilton also coached in four post-season bowl games; the 1990-1992 Liberty Bowl and the 1995 Copper Bowl.
Hamilton has also served as a 5x Member of the America Football Coaches Association Ethics Committee and during his time at ETSU and Brevard College, several of his teams posted the highest football team GPA in school history. He and his East Tennessee State football program started the Communities in School program in Johnson City Tennessee.
Hamilton also served time as the Offensive Coordinator at Wofford College where he coached Harlon Hill nominee quarterback Shawn Graves, along with beginning his college coaching career at The Citadel where he obtained his Masters's Degree. He is a graduate of Appalachian State University where he played quarterback for the Mountaineers and was voted a team captain his junior year. His achievements are a direct result of his commitment to the success of the young men he coaches both on and off the field.
Hamilton is married to his wife of 41 years, Jane Hamilton, who is a kindergarten teacher at the Early Learning Village in Frankfort, KY. Mrs. Hamilton was awarded Educator of the Year in Transylvania County NC while teaching at Rosman Elementary and was recognized as an Exceptional Educator in Marietta GA, by the city of Symrna, where she taught 1st grade at Covenant Christian School.
Coach and Mrs. Hamilton have three children; Kye who is married to his wife Beth along with their son Beau, Jenna and her husband David May, and Alanna and her husband Asher Wojciechowski.
