Warren May enters the 2011 season as the new head baseball coach for the Thorobreds.
May began his coaching career with the Jackie Joyner Kersey league where he mentored adolescents and developed their skills for the game as well. He then spent one year at Clark Atlanta University assisting with the Panthers’ baseball team.
Prior to coaching, May was a standout player in high school and college. He served as captain through senior high school (East St. Louis Sr. High) and was an All-State, All-Conference member in 1993.
May attended Southern University (SU) in Baton Rouge, La. and led his team to back-to-back Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Titles and NCAA Tournament appearances in 1994 and 1995. While in college, May also worked at Louisiana State University’s (LSU) baseball camps. After leaving SU May played one year with the St. Louis Colts, a semi-pro baseball team in the Mon-Clair League.
When asked about his goals for the season and his players May stated, “I am the proud son of a former major leaguer and coach so I’m eager to begin coaching. I want to develop my players into men by preparing them to take on and succeed at new opportunities. I want them to become positive, productive citizens because baseball is only a small piece in life’s puzzle.”
May graduated from Southern University in 1999 with a bachelor’s of science in psychology. He is currently working on his master’s of science in school counseling from Lindenwood University. He resides in Frankfort with his wife, Kyetta, and their daughter, Kyler.
