Kentucky State Opens Series with Doubleheader Sweep at Tuskegee

TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Continuing their momentum in SIAC play, Kentucky State baseball opened the road series with a doubleheader sweep Saturday in Tuskegee, Alabama, winning 13-11 in Game one and 12-4 in game two.
 
GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 13, TUSKEGEE 11
In the opening game of the doubleheader, Kentucky State took an early lead and overcame a late surge from Tuskegee to defeat the Golden Tigers, 13-11.
 
The Thorobreds tallied 13 hits across the lineup, Cameron McDonald went 3-for-6 at the plate with 4 RBIs and two stolen bases. Kendall Garland added three RBIs as Jonathan Padgett followed with a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with three walks and one hit-by-pitch along with scoring three runs.  
 
On the mound JD Smith earned the win, pitching for 5.2 innings with six strikeouts, Jayden Walter closed the game striking out four batters in the final two innings.
 
Kentucky State set the tone early sparked by a double from Ryan Campbell that was punctuated by a pair of steals that led to five runs on four hits and a 5-1 first inning lead.
 
The Golden Tigers found a grand slam in the sixth inning that turn into an 11-10 lead heading into the final inning.
 
With the bases loaded, Garland was walked that set Brady Wooldridge home to tie the game at 11-11 at the top of the ninth inning. McDonald reached on error by the second baseman that led to both Campbell and Padgett scoring securing a 13-11 Kentucky State win.
 
GAME TWO: KENTUCKY STATE 12, TUSKEGEE 4
Kentucky State used an eight-run third inning to overpower Tuskegee 12-4 and complete the doubleheader sweep.
 
The Thorobreds showed discipline at the plate, drawing seven walks and successfully converting all five stolen-base attempts, including two from Jones. Kentucky State also exploited Tuskegee's mistakes, forcing four errors that resulted in five unearned runs.
 
Logan Christophel delivered a complete-game effort, allowing four runs on four hits while striking out three.
 
Just three innings into the game, Kentucky State came to the plate 11 times and scored eight runs.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Golden Tigers scored three runs. The Thorobreds responded with three runs in the top of the seventh inning. Wooldridge delivered a sacrifice fly, and Jonathan Padgett added an RBI single to seal the win.
 
UP NEXT
The road series will continue with a single game tomorrow, March 15 at 1 p.m. ET in Tuskegee, Alabama.
