Seniors Shine in Mini-Homecoming Victory Over Central State

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Led by four seniors, Kentucky State women's basketball secured a 64-58 victory over Central State during Saturday's Mini-Homecoming game at the Exum Center.
 
Morganne Postell led the Thorobreds offensive charge making eight shot from the field that included four three-pointers to lead all scorers with 23 points. Amina Seck followed with 12 points and eight rebounds.

Kentucky State dominated the paint outscoring Central State 32-24. The Thorobreds also forced 16 turnovers to score 10 points.
 
Five seniors were celebrated as they wrapped up their final season in the green and gold: Diara McBroom of Los Angeles; Amina Seck of Dakar, Senegal; Amyah
Adair-Mars of Elizabeth, New Jersey; Bailey Lee of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and manager Joseph Noah of Louisville, Kentucky.
 
How It Happened
The Thorobreds came out the starting gate strong as back-to-back triples from Postell led to a 15-6 Kentucky State at the midway point of the first quarter. Brittany Campbell found a three-pointer at the 1:10 mark to give the Thorobreds a 19-12 lead at the end of the quarter.
 
In the second quarter the Marauders went on a 10-point run to take the second quarter 20-12 to come within one of the 32-31 lead going into halftime.
 
Both teams returned from the half battling with on both offensive and defensive possessions. Postell gave the Thorobreds a slight lead of 35-32 making a mid-range jumper at 7:34 of the third quarter. In the literal final seconds of the third quarter Central State banked a three-pointer to stay within one of the 44-43 Kentucky State lead heading into the final frame.
 
Trailing by three in the fourth quarter, Seck sparked a 4-0 spurt with a layup at the 8:52 mark. With 4:18 remaining in regulation, Postell hit the dagger from three-point range to give the Thorobreds a 67-53 lead. Aaliyah Hayes iced the game going a perfect 4-of-4 in the final two minutes to secure a six-point, 64-58 victory.
 
Up Next
The Thorobreds will remain at home to host LeMoyne-Owen on Monday, Feb. 16 at 5:30 p.m. inside of the William Exum Center.
