Kentucky State Edged by Central State, 65-62


WILBERFORCE, Ohio – Kentucky State women's basketball came up just short in a 65-62 loss to Central State on Saturday in Wilberforce, Ohio, after a late scoring drought in the final two minutes of regulation.
 
Morganne Postell made six shots from the field to lead Kentucky State with 15 points. Campbell scored in double figures with 13 points and led the Thorobreds at the free-throw line with five makes.
 
The Marauders opened the first quarter with a 10-2 run to take a 10-5 lead over the Thorobreds at the 4:51 mark.
 
Kentucky State responded with a 9-2 run capped by a layup from Campbell that tied the game at 12 with 2:55 remaining in the first.
 
Central State found a way to distance themselves with a 10-2 run, pulling ahead 26-16 at the 6:18 mark of the second quarter.
 
Seck was sent to the line and made both free throws to tie the game at 27, extending the Thorobreds' run to 11-2 with 2:51 left in the second. A Central State turnover led to a quick two points from Triplett, and a free throw from Hayes gave the Thorobreds a brief 31-30 lead. Central State edged the Thorobreds 38-35 at halftime.
 
Saniah Sandlin converted a three-point play to give Kentucky State a 49-47 lead at the 2:26 mark of the third quarter.
 
A late 9-2 run by Central State gave the Marauders a 56-50 lead at the end of the third quarter.
 
Campbell was found in the corner for a wide-open 3-pointer that tied the game at 58 with 4:55 left in the fourth. The Thorobreds kept fighting as Postell made a jumper to tie the game again with 2:25 remaining in regulation.
 
The final two minutes of the fourth quarter proved challenging for the Thorobreds as they were held scoreless. Central State went on to defeat Kentucky State 65-62.
