FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State dropped its home opener Wednesday night, falling 3-1 (25-19, 20-25, 25-18, 25-15) to Thomas More inside Bell Gymnasium.
Leah Tubbs paced the Thorobreds (0-4) with a team-high 12 kills while hitting .308.
Cydne Clayton added 10 assists, three kills, and two blocks, and
Ananiah Huguely chipped in 16 digs to anchor the defense.
Thomas More (3-3) was led by Audrey Warrick, who posted a match-high 25 kills while hitting .316. Matilde Giamberini followed with 21 kills and 13 digs, and Taylor Stivers recorded 17 digs.
The Saints took the opening set 25-19 behind efficient play at the net before Kentucky State responded in the second, using timely kills from Tubbs and
Sydnee Breda-Nixon to secure a 25-20 victory. Warrick fueled Thomas More down the stretch, recording multiple kills in the third and fourth sets to close out the match.
Kentucky State matched Thomas More in blocks with six apiece but hit just .122 as a team compared to the Saints' .198.
The Thorobreds continue their schedule Thursday at the Concord Classic in Athens, W.Va., with a 3 p.m. match against host Concord.
