FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State baseball tallies 16 hits in a doubleheader loss to Clark Atlanta on Saturday.
After a scoreless first two innings between the pair, the Panthers struck first, scoring two runs at the top of the third inning. Kentucky State responded at the bottom as a ground out from
Ashton Renfro batted in
A.J. Jackson.
Kendall Garland followed with a line drive into right field, bringing
Brady Wooldridge to the game 2-2 through three innings.
Clark Atlanta took a 4-2 lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning.
Parker White brought the Thorobreds to within one of the 4-2 Panthers lead on homerun into left field. Clark Atlanta would edge Kentucky State 4-3 in game one.
In the opening inning of game two, Clark Atlanta scored two runs, including a homerun, to take an early 2-0 lead.
At the bottom of the second inning,
Cedric Poellnitz doubled into right field and sent in both Garland and
Gavyn Minyard to tie the game 2-2. Jackson brought Poellnitz, and Wooldridge batted in Jackson to push the Thorobreds to a 4-2 lead.
The Panthers took a 7-4 lead with five runs in the third inning while adding a run in the fourth inning.
White brought in the final run for the Thorobreds with a single into right field that sent Wooldridge home, closing on the 8-5 Panthers lead.
Clark Atlanta maintained control, scoring three runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth inning to secure a 13-5 game-two win.

Kentucky State will close the series against Clark Atlanta tomorrow, April 13 at 12 p.m. on the Western Hills Baseball Field.
