OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Kentucky State baseball team overcomes strong start from Brescia to take a 9-8 win over the Bearcats Wednesday afternoon in Owensboro, Kentucky.
Mario Rivas led the Thorobreds, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and three RBIs.
Zion Lewis also delivered a strong performance, recording three hits in five at-bats and scoring two runs.
Through the first three inning the Bearcats scored seven unanswered runs, before a three-run homerun by Rivas put the first runs on the board at the top of the sixth.
In the seventh inning,
Zion Lewis reached on a fielding error by the shortstop, advancing the runners and allowing
Brad Dossett to score.
Cedric Poellnitz followed with a single to second base, moving Lewis over and bringing
Gavyn Minyard home. Ashton Renfo then delivered the game-tying hit, singling to right field to even the score at 7-7.
At the top of the eighth inning,
Brad Dossett ripped a triple into the right-field corner, driving in
Parker White to give the Thorobreds an 8-7 lead.
Gavyn Minyard followed with a sacrifice fly, bringing in Dossett to extend the lead to 9-7. The Bearcats added a run in the bottom of the inning, but the Thorobreds held them off to secure a 9-8 victory.
Brad Wooldridge earned the win leading the efforts on the mound with four strikeouts.
UP NEXT
The Thorobreds will return home to host conference opponent Miles in weekend series beginning March 8 at the Western Hills Baseball Field, first pitch is set for noon.
