FRANKFORT, Ky. – After a thrilling 5-4 victory in an eight-inning opener, Kentucky State softball settled for a doubleheader split Saturday, falling 4-1 to Miles in Game 2.
Aaliyah Long, Andrayln Brown, and
LillieAnn Hollom each recorded a double, while
Tayler Floyd and Hollom combined for four RBIs on the day.
In the opener, the Golden Bears struck first with two runs on a single to left field. Floyd answered for the Thorobreds, singling to third base to drive in
Makayla Coffey. Kentucky State took a 3-2 lead later in the inning when Hollom singled to right field, bringing home Long and Floyd.
Savannah Teale extended the lead to 4-2 in the third with an RBI single that plated Long.
Miles responded with a solo home run in the fifth before tying the game at 4-4 in the seventh, forcing extra innings.
In the eighth, Floyd delivered the game-winning sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Brown to score on a tag-up and secure the 5-4 victory.
The nightcap remained scoreless through two innings before Miles broke through with three runs to take a 3-0 lead. The Golden Bears added another run in the fifth on a sacrifice bunt.
Kentucky State got on the board in the sixth when
Lisuanet Flores hit a sacrifice fly to center, bringing home Long. However, the Thorobreds couldn't rally as Miles took Game 2, 4-1.
ON DECK
Kentucky State will head to Wilmore, Kentucky on April 1st for a doubleheader against Asbury beginning at 2:00 p.m.
