TUSKEGEE, Ala. – Despite recording 10 hits, Kentucky State baseball fell to Tuskegee 12-4 in the series opener after the Golden Tigers scored five runs in the eighth inning.
Tuskegee capitalized on Kentucky State's defensive struggles, scoring on four of the Thorobreds' five errors.
The Golden Tigers took an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Kentucky State responded in the third when
Parker White grounded out to shortstop, allowing
Bakari Rush to score and
Brady Wooldridge to advance to third. Tuskegee answered with two runs in the bottom half to extend their lead to 4-1.
Cedric Poellnitz delivered an RBI single to right field in the fourth, scoring
Kendall Garland and trimming the deficit to 4-2. White added his first homerun of the season in the fifth, bringing Kentucky State within one at 4-3.
Tuskegee regained momentum with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and another in the sixth before breaking the game open with a five-run eighth, pushing its lead to 12-3.
In the ninth,
Preston Jones grounded into a double play, but Poellnitz managed to score Kentucky State's final run.
The Golden Tigers secured the 12-4 win to open the series.
UP NEXT
The series will close tomorrow March 16 with a doubleheader beginning at noon in Tuskegee, Alabama.
