FRANKFORT, Ky. – Quarterback
Denim Johnson threw for a career-high 392 yards and five touchdowns as Kentucky State extended their win streak to six with a 43-28 victory over Clark Atlanta Saturday afternoon inside Alumni Stadium.
Johnson was nearly flawless, completing 16 of 21 passes for five touchdowns. Three of those touchdowns came from
Darius Cyprian who had 254-receiving yards on six receptions.
Senior receiver
Jon McCall added four catches for 99 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Chad Elzy contributed both on the ground and in the end zone with a four-yard touchdown rush late in the second quarter.
On defense,
Navy Curry led the Thorobreds with eight total tackles, while McConnell added an interception and a fumble recovery. The defense limited Clark Atlanta to just 32 rushing yards on 24 attempts despite the Panthers' 457 total yards through the air.
Kentucky State finished with 497 total yards of offense, averaging 11.6 yards per play. Clark Atlanta was led by quarterback Xzavier Jackson, who threw for 425 yards and four touchdowns, three of which went to Armone Harris, who had 15 catches for 225 yards.
