Kentucky State Defense Holds Strong in Loss to Miles

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Miles used a strong fourth quarter to secure a 61-45 victory over Kentucky State in women's basketball Saturday afternoon at the Exum Center, despite the Thorobreds holding the Golden Bears to single digits in the second and third quarters.

The game started with three ties in the first quarter before Miles pulled ahead to take a 16-9 lead at the end of the period.

Kentucky State briefly gained momentum in the second quarter when Bailey Lee sank two free throws to tie the game and give the Thorobreds a 20-19 lead. However, Iemyiah Harris responded with six consecutive free throws, helping the Golden Bears reclaim a 25-20 advantage at halftime.

Miles extended their lead to 30-20 early in the third quarter, but Kentucky State's defense stepped up, holding the Golden Bears to just nine points in the period. A fast-break layup by Brittany Campbell tied the game at 32-32 late in the quarter, and Lee added a free throw to give the Thorobreds a narrow 34-33 lead heading into the fourth.

The Golden Bears turned things around in the final quarter, outscoring Kentucky State 27-12 to secure a 61-45 victory.

Kentucky State will remain home to host Lane on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Exum Center.
