FRANKFORT, Ky. – Kentucky State softball rallied in game one but dropped both sides of the doubleheader, 5-6 and 2-4, against Miles Saturday (April 6) at State Stadium.
Miles struck first at the top of the first on a pair of singles to take an early 2-0 lead. Kentucky State was able to put one run on the board as
Aaliyah Yates was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to send in
Neomi Thomas.
Imani Reed stole on a wild pitch at the bottom of the third inning to tie the game 2-2 through three innings.
The Golden Bears added three runs in the fourth inning and one run in the sixth inning to take a 6-2 lead.
Tayler Floyd led the seventh inning rally on a single that batted in Yates.
Tanisha Valdez was walked with the bases loaded walk in
Kamaria Hurse. A single by
LillieAnn Hollom made it possible for Reed to steal home and bring the Thorobreds to within one of the 6-5 Golden Bears lead. Back to back strikeouts ended the rally attempt for the Thorobreds.
Theresa Pelland moved to 5-4 on the season with the loss, allowing nine hits and six runs. She notched her third with six strikeouts through six innings pitched.
On the second game of the slate, Miles struck early scoring two runs in the third and two in the fifth taking 4-0 lead after five innings.
Tommy Davis led of the sixth inning with a single batting in Valdez, Rhalee Ellis tripled into right field to bat in Davis and close on the 4-2 Golden Bears lead at the end of six.
Kentucky State would not be able to recover in the seventh inning dropping the contest 4-2. Lisaunet Flores took the loss allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out three batters.

The Thorobreds will meet in state opponent Thomas More in a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9.
