FRANKFORT, Ky. – delivered a powerful offensive performance in the first game of a doubleheader against the Spring Hill Badgers, securing a 14-5 victory with a 14-hit attack. However, the Badgers' late surge in the second game resulted in a split series.
In the opener, the Thorobreds' offensive charge was led by
Kelton Saylor and
Parker White. Saylor crossed the plate three times while White knocked in three runs with a pair of doubles.
Mitchell Collins added firepower with a double and a home run, driving in a total of six runs.
Pitcher
Dashawn Hureskin, despite an unsteady beginning, found his rhythm to last seven innings on the mound. He allowed five runs and struck out five. Relief pitcher
Daccarius Chapman (3-3) pitched a scoreless eighth inning to notch the win, and
Yosvany Marquez closed out the contest without surrendering a run.
The Thorobreds' bats caught fire in the eighth inning, highlighted by a nine-run outburst that proved to be the game's most explosive offensive inning. Saylor initiated the rally by scoring on a wild pitch. White soon mirrored Saylor's dash to the plate, capitalizing on another wild pitch. Collins made a significant impact with a two-run homer to right field. The hit parade continued with Saylor's RBI single up the middle and White's three-run double to left field.
Collier Higgs capped the inning by driving in White, capping off Kentucky State's emphatic triumph in the series opener.
Kentucky State ended the first inning with a 3-1 lead and extended it by one (4-1) in the third inning. The Badgers ended the final two innings with eight runs in both the sixth and seventh to defeat the Thorobreds 17-4.
