BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Kentucky State softball earns 16-8 win over Allen in day one of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Softball Crossover in Birmingham, Alabama.
The Thorobreds faced the Savannah State Tigers in the first game of the crossover and fell 4-2.
Savannah State got ahead early scoring three runs through two innings. Kentucky State responded in the fifth inning as
Andralyn Brown scored on a throwing error.
Neomi Thomas followed scoring on a throwing error. The Tigers would score at the bottom of the fifth to win the game 4-2.
Game two was exciting for Kentucky State as they opened the first inning scoring nine runs through five batters. Taylor Floyd singled on a bunt that sent Brown across home for the first run of the day.
Rhealee Ellis hit her first collegiate home run and grand slam to add four runs in the fourth inning. The Thorobreds added three unearned runs to finish the first inning with a 9-0 lead.
Allen scored 8 runs in the second and third innings to get within 1 of the 9-8 Kentucky State lead in the middle of the third. Hurse responded with a triple into center field to bat in Brown.
Tanisha Valdez grounded out to the pitcher but sent Hurse home and Floyd scoring on a wild pitch gave the Thorobreds a 12-8 lead through three innings.
A single up the middle by Valdez sent Hurse in for the first run of the fifth inning.
Ashley Adkins batted in Floyd on a single up the middle.
Lisuanet Flores hit a sacrifice bunt allowing Valdez to cross home plate and extend Kentucky State to an 15-8 lead after five innings.
Valdez batted in the final runs of the evening on a single into right center that batted
Imani Reed in securing a 16-8 victory.
Day two of the SIAC Crossover will have another schedule of two SIAC opponents beginning with Benedict at 10 a.m. CT and Albany State at 2:30 p.m. CT.
