Kentucky State Finishes as 2024 SIAC Women’s Basketball Championship Runner-Up

SAVANNAH, Ga. – Kentucky State women's basketball finishes as the 2024 SIAC Women's Basketball Championship Runner-Up falling to Miles College 75-72 Sunday in Savannah, Georgia.  
 
Sydney Thomas was named to the All-Tournament scoring 12 points that included three three-pointers.
 
Taleah Dilworth was also named to the All-Tournament and scored 11 points during the Championship.
 
Naja Fenelon shot 100% (4-of-4) from the charity stripe, 2-of-3 at the three point line and 5-of-9 from the field to lead Kentucky State with 16 points.
 
Erica Jones grabbed 12 rebounds, two steals, one block and scored nine points during the contest.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sydney Thomas opened the contest with two back-to-back three pointers to give Kentucky State an early 7-5 first quarter lead.
 
The Thorobreds launched an 8-0 run to push their lead to 13-2 with 2:29 left in the opening quarter.
 
Fenelon found a three-pointer late in first quarter to give the Thorobreds a 16-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
A miles three pointer tied the game 16-16 at 7:55 in the second quarter, they followed with a 10-0 run before it was ended on a layup by Mondrea Williams at 3:11 in second quarter.
 
Kentucky State made four of their last five shots from the field to trail Miles 27-26 at halftime.
 
Miles was able to jump ahead by making nine shots from the field and outscore the Thorobreds 22-15 during the third quarter.
 
Late in the fourth quarter the Thorobreds gained momentum going on a 10-3 run. Thomas hit a three-pointer and Fenelon followed with a three pointer to bring Kentucky State to within one of 73-72 lead with four seconds remaining in regulation. Miles went on to make two free throws to defeat Kentucky State 75-72.
