Kentucky State Concludes Series at West Alabama

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – In their second series of the year Kentucky State baseball concluded their three-game series 1-2 at West Alabama. Four runs in the eighth inning led to an 8-6 win in game one.
 
Game 1
The first game with a double down the right field line by Collier Higgs sent Kelton Saylor across home plate for the first run of the day. Isaiah Zepeda-Felix grounded out to the second base and sent Parker White Home and Higgs in scoring position that would end up being a scoring run on a balk. West Alabama scored just one run giving Kentucky State a 3-1 lead at the end of the first inning.
 
West Alabama scored multiple runs in the third and fourth innings to take a 5-3 through five innings.
 
Kentucky State responded quick as Higgs singled down the right field line batting in Mitchell Collins and brought the Thorobreds to within one of the 5-4 West Alabama lead.
 
Danzel Lucas led the rally in the eight innings on a single into right field and tied the game 5-5 as Zepeda-Felix scored. A double into center field by Collins added one run with Cedric Poellnitz scoring. Saylor hit a sacrifice fly into to center field that sent Lucas home, White singled to the pitcher to add the final run and win the first game 8-6.
 
At the plate Saylor went 3-of-4 to bat in one run and bat in run, Higgs followed going 3-of-5 in the batters' box to bat in two runners and score one run.
 
Game 2
In the second game of the doubleheader, Higgs had a pivotal two-run homer during the seventh inning. Despite Higgs' contribution, Kentucky State ultimately succumbed, losing the second game 5-2.
 
Game 3
The final game series went to the West Alabama Tigers as runs in the first, fifth, sixth  and eighth innings secured an 8-2 win.
 
Kentucky State scored all of their runs in the third inning led by Higgs reaching first on a fielder's choice that allowed Antonio Chambers to score. A single into left field by Zepeda-Felix batted Saylor to add two runs in the innings.
 
Up Next
SIAC play is up next for the Thorobreds as they head to Savannah State beginning with a single game on Sat., Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. and will follow with a doubleheader on Sun., Feb. 18 with the first pitch beginning at noon.
