JASPER, Ala. – Kentucky State softball opened the first day of the SIAC Crossover with wins against Savannah State (7-4) and Allen (9-0) Saturday in Jasper, Alabama.
Kentucky State vs. Savannah State
Four runs in the bottom of the third and three runs at the bottom of the fourth led to a 7-4 victory against Savannah State on the first day of the SIAC Crossover.
Savannah State opened the first inning to lead 2-0 heading into the third inning as
Kendall Collier responded with a single to bat in
Neomi Thomas and
Kamaria Hurse to tie the game 2-2.
Kayla West singled to bat in
Tanisha Valdez, and
Imani Reed had a sacrifice fly to left field to send in Collier and give the Thorobreds a 4-2 lead at the end of the third inning.
In the fourth inning,
Tanisha Valdez had a sacrifice fly into right field to bat in Hurse.
Aaliyah Yates singled to send Collier and Thomas home extending the Kentucky State lead to a 7-2 lead after four innings.
The Tigers scored two runs in the fifth inning, but that wasn't enough to overcome the Thorobreds as Kentucky State won the game 4-7.
Kayla West tallied six strikeouts to be awarded the win for the Thorobreds.
Kentucky State vs Allen
The Thorobreds defeated the Allen Yellow Jackets 9-0 after five innings in their second game of the SIAC Crossover.
Kendall Collier reached on a fielder choice as
Tanisha Valdez advanced to second on an error by the shortstop and advanced to third while
Tayler Floyd and
Kamaria Hurse scored unearned. Valdez scored on a passed ball to end the top of the third inning with a 3-0 Kentucky State lead.
In the fourth inning,
Brooklyn Black singled to right field to bat in Andrayln Brown. Floyd doubled into left field, sending both Hurse and Black home. A single by Collier to the right field sent Floyd home to score the inning's final run and extend Kentucky State to a 7-0 lead.
The Thorobreds scored two runs in the fifth inning, led by
Maleah Murphy, who scored on a wild pitch. Black singled to left field to bat in Brown and secure a 9-0 Kentucky State victory.
Theresa Pelland earned the win with four strikeouts and allowed just two hits.
