Thorobreds Dominant in 21-14 Victory Over Lane Dragons

JACKSON, Tenn. – Kentucky State outscored the Lane Dragons 21-0 in the first half to secure a 21-14 conference win Saturday afternoon in Jackson, Tennessee.
 
Isaiah Saleem had a career high night of 138 rushing yards on 28 attempts that included a long of 85 yards.
 
Defensive End Bryce Boby Hayes proved his versatility by scoring on offense with a two yard reception at the end of the second quarter.
 
Markel Cotton averaged 17.8 yards per catch and totaled 71 yards on four receptions.
 
Devontae Broadnax led the Thorobreds with seven total sacks that included .5 tackles for a loss of one yard.
 
 
How It Happened
In the opening drive Kentucky State marched down the field 83 yards and scored on a 10 yard rush by Navy Curry taking an early 7-0 lead in the first quarter (8:00).
 
Yumana Lofton took home the first interception of the night on a third down drive in the second quarter (11:49).
 
Isaiah Saleem nearly took one to the house on an 85 yard rush as his teammate Christian Perez followed up with a seven yard rushing touchdown to extend the Kentucky State lead to 14-0 in the second quarter (9:53).

Perez connected to Markel Cotton for 51 yards during their next drive that ended with a touchdown reception by Bryce Boby Hayes to score the final points and secure a 21-0 Kentucky State lead going into halftime.
 
Six plays into the third quarter Isaiah Thomas intercepted Polo Solomon to put the Kentucky State offense on the Lane 42 yard line.
 
Lane scored their first points on a goal line rushing touchdown to add seven at 8:41 in the third quarter. In the next possession the Thorobreds turned the ball over on an interception, but Trevon Pope brought the ball back home on an interception at 1:55.
 
Just seconds (14:48) into the fourth quarter the Dragons scored their final points of the night. The Thorobreds kept the Dragons from scoring to win the contest 21-14.
 
Up Next
Kentucky State will continue road play as they head to Columbia, South Carolina to take on conference opponent the Benedict Tigers on Saturday, October 21 at 2 p.m.
