There were six ties and six lead changes. However, the Thorobreds held the lead for 89.5% of the game.
Two Thorobreds scored double digits, led by 16 points from
Laurie Thomas and 10 points from
Hilani Cantone.
How It Happened
Taleah Dilworth converted on a Badger turnover scoring on a fast break layup giving Kentucky State an early 2-0 lead. Spring Hill tied the game 2-2 on the following possession on a mid-range jumper.
Gracen Kerr responded with a jump shot to give the Thorobreds a 4-2 lead with 8:47 left in the first quarter.
The lead changed three times in the second half of the first quarter, and a last-minute layup by Thomas gave her team a 14-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Spring Hill tied the game 14-14 on made free throw early in the second quarter and held the lead for a few seconds before Thomas scored on a layup and converted a turnover to give the Thorobreds an 18-16 lead.
Kerr scored on a fast break layup to give the Thorobreds a 27-20 lead at the half.
Thomas scored on a fast break layup assisted by Cantone to give their team a 12-point 33-21 lead at 8:37 in the third quarter.
The Thorobreds scored on a layup to further the scoring gap with a 30-41 lead. The Badgers would come to within a four-point 41-37 deficit at the end of the third quarter.
Lauren Powell made both free throw attempts to give Kentucky State a 17-point 66-49 lead with 1:46 remaining in the fourth quarter. A made free-throw by
Kayla Thompson secured a 67-51 victory.
