FRANKFORT, Ky. – The Thorobreds late rally in each set was not enough to overcome the Asbury Eagles as they went on to win the match 3-0.
In the opening set, the Eagles took an 11-3 set lead as an error would eventually come from Asbury, giving the Thorobreds a quick two points (11-5, AU). A kill by
Shaska Davis from Elajia Hatley started the five-point run (12-10, AU).
Audi Hicks tied the set 13-13 with a service ace. A late rally led by
Amaya Johnson would bring the Thorobreds to within four of the Eagles 25-21 set win.
The second set was neck and neck early, as there would be a combination of 12 leads and ties up until the 12th point. Kentucky State was down 24-16 and would fight until the end, going on a four-point run and ending the set 25-20.
Kentucky State wasn't going down without a fight in the third set with an early 5-1 lead. A kill by
Miana Wallace and an error by the Eagles gave the Thorobreds a 10-4 lead. The Eagles tied the game 13-13 on an attack error, but the Thorobreds would respond and tie the set 14-14 with a kill from Miah Colbert. Asbury went on to take the set 25-19 and the match 3-0.
