SPRING HILL, S.C. – Kentucky State women's basketball advances to the quarterfinals of the 2022 SIAC Women's Basketball Championship, defeating #4 in the east Clark Atlanta 78-68 in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
At the first media timeout (6:26), Kentucky State held a 12-5 lead. The Panthers would allow the Thorobreds to score four points for the remainder of the quarter. Clark held a two-point 18-16 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Hilani Cantone gave Kentucky State a 20-18 lead on a driving layup assisted by
Hannah Henderson. In the following Panther possession, Kentucky State Henderson would score on a steal from
Laurie Thomas, giving the Thorobreds a 22-18 lead.
The first double-digit lead of the night would come from a two-point play by
Andrea Wallace, extending the Thorobreds lead 35-24 at 2:15 in the second quarter.
At the third quarter's midway point (4:59), Denise Stine from Clark would bring her team to within one 43-42 on an and-one opportunity.
Gracen Kerr extended the Kentucky State lead to six (52-46) on a mid-range jumper in the final moments of the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Wallace made her one of her free-throws to propel Kentucky State to a 78-68 victory and advance them to the quarterfinals.
Thomas led Kentucky State with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals, securing the first double-double of the night. Kerr had the second double-double with 10 points and ten assists.
Cantone had a noteworthy performance of 16 points and seven rebounds. Two more Thorobreds hit in the double figures Wallace with 11 and Henderson with 10.
