COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Kentucky State softball completed with an 10-7 win to Iowa Wesleyan, a 0-13 lost to host Lincoln in day one. In the second day the Thorobreds narrowly dropped their second contest to Lincoln 5-6 and fell to Stephens College 2-10.
Game 1 vs Iowa Wesleyan
Aaliyah Yates scored the first run of the contest from a double by Adrianna Hill at the top of the first, Iowa Wesleyan went on to score three runs at the end of the first inning.
The first run of the day was led by
Arianna Hill who hit a double allowing
Aaliyah Yates to score, giving Kentucky State 1-0 lead at the top of the first. Iowa Wesleyan outscored the Thorobreds 3-1 at the end of the first.
Both
Kailen Olison and
Moana Pinner scored on a double by
Tanisha Valdez that tied the ball game 3-3 at the end of the fourth inning.
Olison scored on a single by
Imani Reed tying the game at 4-4 in the sixth inning. Reed secured an unearned run giving Kentucky State 5-4 lead. Iowa Wesleyan answered taking back the lead 7-5.
Kentucky State rallied in the seventh inning with Hill and Yates scoring on a single from
Kendall Collier.
Kamaria Hurse scored a run on single to center field by Olison.
Tommya Davis scored on a single by Valdez. Olison scored the final run of the day on a single from Saylor, giving the Thorobreds a 10-7 victory in the opening game of the HBCU Round Robin.
Game 2 vs Lincoln
In the second game Kentucky State would fall 0-13 to Lincoln.
Game 3 vs Stephens
In the third game of the HBCU Round Robin, Yates would score the first run of the contest on a double from Pinner giving Kentucky State 1-0 lead at the top of the first.
The final run of the third game would come from an unearned run by Olison on a single from Davis.
Stephens would defeat the Thorobreds 2-10. Four Thorobreds would earn hits Saylor, Yates, Pinner and Davis.
Game 4 vs Lincoln
The final game of the round robin would close out to host Lincoln, the Thorobreds would rally in the seventh inning to narrowly fall to Lincoln 5-6.
Lincoln got off to a 3-0 lead early with the Thorobreds scoring their first run that was unearned by Davis on a double to center field by Yates.
Kentucky State went on to rally in the seventh inning with Valdez and Davis scoring on a single by Reed followed by two runs by Saylor and Reed on a single to right by Yates.
Up Next
Kentucky State will head to Miami Hamilton for a doubleheader on Wednesday March 2 with the game times slated for 2 p.m. and 4 p.m.
