ATLANTA, GA. - Kentucky State Baseball defeated Clark Atlanta in an away doubleheader Saturday, February 28th adding to their overall record of 6-7.
Game 1: Kentucky State 17 Clark Atlanta 2
In the top of the 1st, Dominic Lawson led with his first at-bat with a line-drive double to center with aggressive baserunning of stealing third base.
Kelton Saylor would then hit a double to the left, allowing Lawson to score.
The Panthers would go scoreless until the bottom of the 2nd, scoring two runs that would put them ahead of the Thorobreds. Scoring run, Gaskin, was hit by a pitch for his at-bat. Manuel would hit a line-drive double, allowing Gaskin to score. Manuel was the second and final run to score on a fielder's choice with bases loaded, getting the second force out at the first base.
At the top of the 4th,
Jared Pierce hits a home run to right field, and Dominic Lawson follows an in-the-park home run.
Kelton Saylor hits a single on an error from the first base, then
Adren Thompson will hit a homerun crossing Saylor and himself.
Top of the 6th,
Kelton Saylor walks with
Adren Thompson with another homer to the left, scoring them both.
Byron Fambles walks, and
Antonio Chambers singles, moving Fambles to second.
Aram Kumar will walk, moving Famble to third and Chambers to second. Bases loaded
Fambles scored on a wild pitch, allowing Chamber to advance to third and Kumar to second on the same pitch.
Jared Pierce will walk as well, causing bases loaded.
Dom Lawson with a single on an error results in Chamber and Kumar scoring. Collier with a homerun crossing Pierce and Lawson.
Kelton Saylor gets a free base from a hit by a pitch where
Adren Thompson, with yet another home run, brings Saylor in.
Roby Schank and
Antonio Chambers both walk following
Aram Kumar at-bat with a single due to an error on SS resulting in bases loaded.
Jared Pierce would receive four balls causing him to walk, Schank will be the final score of the inning.
In the top of the 7th,
Collier Higgs hits a double to left and
Kelton Saylor singles on a line drive to left as well, advancing Higgs to third.
Adren Thompson singles on a ground ball to center, allowing Higgs to score the final run of the gaming, closing 17-2.
Game 2: Kentucky State 16 Clark Atlanta 4
In the bottom of the 1st,
Solomon Reed steps on the mound against the Panthers. Clark will score three runs with a total of 2 hits that will put them ahead of the Thorobreds 3-0.
The Thorobreds will go scoreless until the fourth inning.
Clark Atlanta will cross one more run in the bottom on the 2nd, adding to their lead over the Thorobreds 4-0.
Kentucky State tallied five runs on two hits in the top of the 4th.
Antonio Chambers will spark the rally for the Thorobreds with two outs on the board with a line drive to the right.
Aram Kumar will single as well to center, moving Chambers to second.
Jared Pierce gets, moving
Antonio Chambers to third and Kumar to third, bases loaded. Dominic Lawson hits a pop fly to third who errors and allows Chamber and Kumar to score. Lawson will move to second on a passed ball.
Collier Higgs walks, and Lawson is still on the second. Saylor hits a ground ball with an error on third base, again allowing Lawson and Higgs to score and Saylor advancing to second on the same error. Thorobreds will fall ahead of the Panthers 5-4.
The Panthers will go scoreless for the remainder of the game.
Two runs will score on the top of the 5th.
Roby Schanks walks, then
Byron Fambles sacrifices to third, moving Schanks over to second. Chambers will acquire a walk. Pierce doubles with a fly ball to the left, Schanks and Chambers adding to the total of 7-4.
In the top of the 6th, two runs and two hits will be tallied. Higgs hits a double to center then advances to third on a passed ball. Saylor will pop up to left, causing Higgs to tag up and score. Thompson will walk then advanced to third on a passed ball. Schanks hits a triple allowing Thompson to score. The final score of the inning results in 9-4.
The Thorobreds will add seven runs with two hits in the top of the 7th, adding to the score of 16-4. Kumar starts the inning out with a single-line drive to right, then steals second base. The next three batters, Pierce, Lawson, and Higgs will walk, pushing Kumar to score, leaving bases loaded. Saylor walks as well, pushing Pierce to score. Thompson will then walk as well, pushing Lawson to score. Schanks hits a grand slam allowing four runs to cross the plate. Fambles gets hit by a pitch then advances to 2nd.
