SAVANNAH, Ga. – Thorobreds score a season high of 17 points to defeat the Savannah State Tigers 17-13 in game one. Kentucky State would drop the second contest 11-0 at Tiger Field in Savannah, Georgia
Game 1: Kentucky State 17 Savannah State 13
The Tigers opened the contest, scoring three runs in the second inning and extending their lead, scoring seven runs after the fourth.
Kentucky State would have a pair of home runs led by Dominic Lawson and
Adren Thompson. Brandon Famble tripled to center field, sending
Roby Schank to home plate. The Thorobreds would close on the Tigers lead 4-7 at the end of the fourth inning.
Savannah State earned an unearned run in the fifth inning, extending their lead 8-4.
Kelton Saylor singled to right field, allowing
Jared Pierce to earn an unearned run in the seventh inning. Schank would follow on a single to center field, sending Lawson home adding another run to the board for his team. Saylor crossed home plate and closed on the Tigers 8-7 lead.
The ninth inning would send the Thorobreds to victory, beginning with Pierce's single to right field, sending Famble home. Lawson would answer with another single to the right field, sending
Aram Kumar home. Saylor reached first on a fielder's choice, and a throwing error by the Tigers allowed Pierce to score. Thompson knocked one straight out of the park, sending Saylor and allowing
Collier Higgs to score the final run giving Kentucky State a 17-8 lead at the top of the ninth.
The Tigers would attempt to overtake the Thorobreds scoring five runs at the bottom of the ninth, but that wouldn't be enough, and Kentucky State would win the first game of the doubleheader 17-13.
Kentucky State earned 17 runs, 18 hits, and two errors in game one.
Game 2: Kentucky State 0 Savannah State 11, 7 inning
Kentucky State allowed 11 runs in three innings in a 0-11 loss to Savannah State in the second game of the doubleheader.
