FRANKFORT, Ky. – In a five-set thriller, the Kentucky State women's volleyball team defeated the Maryville Saints 3-2 at the KSU Women's Volleyball Invitational hosted by Western Hills High School in Frankfort, Ky. 
 
The Thorobreds dropped their first contest 0-3 to the West Virginia State Yellow Jackets.   
 
How it Happened:
Game One 
The Yellow Jackets got the advantage early with a first-set win of 25-16. 
Robin Poole led her team with three kills. The next three matches would be dropped 25-9 in the second and 25-9 in the final set. Poole tallied seven kills this match, followed by her teammate Tamaia Sugars who earned three. 
 
 
Game Two
Early in a five-set clash, the Thorobreds took the advantage with a 25-22 win. The Saints would take the second set. Both teams went back and forth in the third set. But the Thorobreds would come out on top 27-25. The Saints would capture the win in the fourth set, 25-15. In an intense fifth set, the Thorobreds would outlast the Saints 15-2, which would secure them a 3-2 win.
 
The Game Book
	- Poole saw much success in Day 2 of the KSU Invitational, leading her team with seven kills in the first match (vs. West Virginia State) and a total of 13 in the second match (vs. Maryville)
- Tinoi Martin would earn nine kills in the second contest against Maryville. 
- The Thorobreds would tie ten times, and the lead would change six against Maryville. 
Up Next
The Thorobreds will hit the road on Sept. 9 to Lane College with the first set for 5:30 p.m. and close out the road trip at the SIAC Cluster hosted at LeMoyne-Owen Sept. 10 – 11.
