Buckhannon, W.Va – The Kentucky State women's basketball opened their 2021-22 campaign with an 89-77 win on the road at non-conference opponent West Virginia Wesleyan in Buckhannon, West Virginia.
At about the midway point, the Thorobreds would go on their best scoring run of 14 points. In the third quarter, Kentucky State would hold a 22 point lead, the largest of the night, and lead the game for 38:03.

How It Happened
The first quarter would set the tone for Kentucky State outscoring West Virginia Wesleyan 27-16. Near the end of the quarter, Kentucky State would lead by 17 points (3:06) and hold the lead for 8:03. A solid defensive performance led to 13 points from turnovers, while a strong post secured 14 points in the paint.
Going into the second quarter, the momentum would continue for the Thorobreds, outscoring the Bobcats 26-22, taking a 53-28 lead going into the half. Kentucky State shot 73.3% from the field in the quarter alone and 57.1% from long range.
In the third quarter, the Bobcats would take the advantage 22-21, but the Thorobreds would lead 74-60 at the end of the quarter. Kentucky State would score 14 points in the paint and five second-chance points.
The Thorobreds would close out the fourth quarter with 15 points and win the game 89-77. The Kentucky State bench would score seven points and have 12 points from the paint. Dilworth would shoot 2-of-2 from the field and 1-of-1 from long range. Wallace would lead the team with six points.

Kentucky State will open at home on Wednesday, November 17th, against non-conference Asbury at 6 p.m. inside the William Exum Center. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Monday, November 15th. All spectators will be required to wear a mask while inside the Exum Center.
