Spring sports athletes get extra year

The NCAA Division II Administrative Committee has granted an extra year of eligibility for spring sports student-athletes who had their seasons canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"It's been a long few weeks of back and forth between the Presidents, Athletic Directors and the NCAA," said Kentucky State University Acting Athletic Director Terrance Slater. "We all came into this trying to do what was best for the student athletes and our sports as a whole. Although everybody didn't get what they wanted. I still think it was the best decision for the greater good of college sports."

Spring sports were halted on March 13 due to concerns about the pandemic. The Kentucky State University baseball team finished the season 12-8, while the KSU softball team finished 4-10. The Thorobreds' outdoor track & field teams competed in just one meet, while the men's golf team didn't compete.

The ruling particularly affected 12 Kentucky State University senior student-athletes. At this time, nine senior student-athletes have decided to take advantage of the NCAA ruling.
