TUSKEGEE, Ala. – A two-out single in the bottom of the ninth inning provided the margin as the Kentucky State University softball team fell to Tuskegee, 4-3, Sunday in the finale of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference three-game series at the TU Softball Field.
Kentucky State (3-8 overall, 0-3 SIAC) returns to action 3 p.m. Monday for a non-conference doubleheader with Auburn University Montgomery. The game was moved up from Tuesday due to weather concerns.
THE MOMENT THAT MATTERED
Tuskegee opened the bottom of the seventh inning with three consecutive singles, putting the tying run on third and the winning run on second. A sacrifice fly brought home the tying run, but the Golden Tigers couldn't scratch across additional runs.
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
Junior
Moana Pinner (Hilo, Hawaii) had one of the two Kentucky State hits, a no doubt, two-run home run in the third inning that gave the Thorobreds the 3-1 lead.
Senior
Katie Arbec (Louisville, Ky.) recorded the other hit for Kentucky State.
Freshman
Kendall Collier (Nashville, Tenn.) went 8 2/3 innings, allowing three earned runs on 13 hits.
BRED BITS
Senior
Sasha Allen (West Covina, Calif.) drew two of the six Kentucky State walks. She also had two home runs taken away, one by the wind and another by a leaping catch at the centerfield wall.
