Sophomore
Jace Wilson drove in a pair of runs as the Kentucky State University baseball team defeated Urbana, 6-1, Saturday in non-conference action at Alumni Field.
Kentucky State (9-3 overall) returns to action 10 a.m. Sunday, hosting Northwood (2-5) and then playing these same Blue Knights 3 p.m. Sunday.
THE MOMENT THAT MATTERED
After sophomore
Aram Kumar (Georgetown, Ky.) reached on a two-out error that knotted the game at one, Wilson (Shepherdsville, Ky.) singled up the middle in the bottom of the second inning that gave Kentucky State a lead it wouldn't surrender.
COACHES COMMENTS
"Today's win was another really good team win," said Kentucky State head coach
Rob Henry. "It seems like we've had different guys stepping up instead of relying on the same couple of players to get things done.
Jace Wilson was clutch with a couple of two-out RBI hits.
Dom Lawson came up big with a three-run double and
Dashawn Hureskin was like a machine again once he got past the first inning. We're getting some great leadership from a lot of different guys and it seems like we have someone new stepping up each game."
INDIVIDUAL LEADERS
- Wilson went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI to lead the Thorobreds. It was the first three-hit game of his career.
- Junior Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, Ky.) smacked a three-run, bases-loaded double in the fifth inning to give KSU the 6-1 lead.
- Freshman Kelton Saylor (Rossville, Ind.) was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. It was his fourth multi-hit game of the season.
- Sophomore pitcher Dashawn Hureskin, 3-0, (Benton Harbor, Mich.) allowed one unearned run on three hits with five strikeouts.
BRED BITS
- Six different players scored for the Thorobreds.
- Kentucky State has won all four of Hureskin's starts this season.
- Five of Kentucky State's eight hits went for extra bases.
- Urbana only had two at-bats with runners in scoring position and failed to get a hit in either attempt.
