Box Score 2 CLEVELAND, TENN. – The Kentucky State University volleyball team split a pair of games Saturday, falling to host Lee University in straight sets and then defeated Erskine College in four.
The tri-match was a last minute change as Hurricane Dorian forced the cancellation of the Janet Collins Invitational in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Junior
Robin Poole (Katy, Tex.) recorded a team-high five kills, and sophomore
Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, Ohio) added four kills as the Thorobreds opened the season with a non-conference loss.
Kentucky State finished with 16 kills on 77 attempts and 15 errors for a hitting percentage of .013.
Thirteen of the team's 16 kills were assisted on with junior
Sasha Bills (Mesa, Ariz.) leading the way with seven assists.
Junior
Oyuky Benitez (Laveen, Ariz.) had a team-high nine digs, while Poole added eight digs. Junior
Jalynn Roberts (Davenport, IA) had a pair of solo blocks.
KENTUCKY STATE 3, ERSKINE 1 (25-19, 23-25, 26-24, 25-16)
Bills and sophomore
Jalyn Barnett (Detroit, Mich.) each recorded their first career double-doubles as the Thorobreds tallied their first win of the season. Bills finished with a team-high 19 assists and 11 digs, while Barnett added 12 digs and 10 assists.
Benitez and freshman
Makayla Berry (Orangeburg, S.C.) also had double-figure digs with 15 and 12, respectively.
Poole was the catalyst for the KSU offense with 12 kills on 35 attempts.
Senior transfer
Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, La.) was efficient offensively with nine kills on 14 attempts with just one error. She added five block assists and a solo block.
Kentucky State (1-1) hosts the three-day Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division Cluster, starting Thursday. The Thorobreds kick off action 6:30 p.m. against defending SIAC champion Spring Hill.
