Charlie Jackson era is upon us as the Kentucky State University football team travels to Moon Township, PA to take on Division I Robert Morris.

PRESEASON POLLS: In a vote of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) head coaches and sports information directors, the Kentucky State Thorobreds - coming off a winless season - were picked to finish last in the West Division.
        Reigning SIAC champion Miles earned two first-place votes and was picked to win the division. Tuskegee, which also earned two first-place votes, was picked second. Central State earned the most first-place votes with three, and was picked third followed by Lane and Kentucky State.
        Defending East Division champion Albany State was predicted to repeat, followed by Benedict, Morehouse, Fort Valley State, Clark Atlanta, and SIAC newcomer Savannah State

PRESEASON ALL-SIAC: Graduate defensive lineman
Chris Roberts was the lone Thorobred to earn first team honors. Roberts was led the team with 12 tackles for loss and was second on the team with 63 tackles.
        Junior offensive lineman
Eliezer Hernandez and redshirt junior returner
Brett Sylve earned second team honors. Sylve returns to the gridiron after missing all but three quarters of the 2018 season. He rushed for 159 yards on 20 carries in his brief appearance.

        Assistant coach
Stephen Pipes is also a graduate of the United State Air Force Academy and is a 20-year combat veteran. He began is coaching career at the US Air Force Academy Prep Academy before coaching at his alma mater.
        Assistant coach Charlie Hopkins coached at The Citadel, while director of player development Jahrod Matlock was also a member of the US Air Force Academy.

NEW LOOK THOROBREDS: The Kentucky State University two-deep looks drastically different from the one that ended the 2018 campaign.
        Only eight student-athletes of the 44 listed in the two-deep roster have even played a snap for Kentucky State.

THREE STRAIGHT: Redshirt sophomore Jaylen Myers will be third straight quarterback to start a season opener for Kentucky State. Myers, a transfer from Gardner Webb, earned the nod over senior
Dennis Bryant, Jr.
        Myers appeared in eight games last season for GWU, completing 11 of 31 his attempts for 102 yards and one interception. He was third on the team in rushing with 287 yards on 40 attempts with one rushing score.

LID LIFTERS: Kentucky State has lost the last four season openers. The last victory came in the 2014 opener when the Thorobreds bested Kentucky Wesleyan, 41-21.

POSITION SWITCHES: Senior Joe Castellanos, after spending his first three seasons as a tight end, has moved to offensive line, while
Jalen Dingle - who was a defensive end in the Thorobreds 3-3-5 scheme - is now a linebacker in KSU's 4-3 scheme.

Eliezer Hernandez is the only returner listed in the Kentucky State University offensive line two-deep headed into the 2019 season opener.
