Goree gets 100th career victory

EVANSVILLE, Ind. –  Junior Jalynn Roberts was dominant defensively and the Kentucky State University volleyball team helped their head coach, DiShondra Goree, achieve her 100th career victory with a five-set victory (25-21, 20-25, 25-20, 14-25, 15-4) over Ohio Dominican in the USI Invitational Friday.

In a little over a year at Kentucky State, Goree has amassed 29 wins. She came to The Hill with 71 wins from her tenure at Shaw University.

Roberts (Davenport, Iowa) came into the match with 12 blocks through seven matches, and nearly equaled that total with her 11 blocks in the victory. She had nine block assists and two solo blocks as Kentucky State finished with a season-high 20 blocks. Roberts added five kills on 15 attempts and two errors with one dig.

While Roberts was dominating the net, junior Robin Poole (Katy, Texas) was the offensive leader for KSU with 15 kills on 36 attempts and six errors. Poole added eight digs and four blocks for the Thorobreds. Senior Tapanga Moten (New Orleans, La.) finished with eight kills, and sophomore Mariah Peachey (Liverpool, Ohio) added six.

Junior Sasha Bills (Mesa, Ariz.) recorded her second double-double of season with 23 assists and 12 digs. Junior Oyuky Benitez (Laveen, Ariz.) contributed a team-high 19 digs, and sophomore Alliyah Williams (Sugar Land, Texas) added 12 digs.
