Former Kentucky State University student-athlete Dr. Harrison B. Wilson, Jr. recently passed away.
Wilson, who also served as the Norfolk State University president, was 94 at the time of his passing.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Thorobreds and former Norfolk State University President, Dr. Harrison Wilson on his passing," said Kentucky State University Athletic Director
Etienne Thomas. "Dr. Wilson's lifelong commitment to higher education, intercollegiate athletics and HBCUs was a testament to his humble beginnings at Kentucky State University as a student-athlete."
After serving in the United States Navy, he enrolled at Kentucky State, where he received his Bachelor's Degree from KSU and was a star athlete in basketball, football, baseball and track. Wilson went onto to become a basketball coach at Jackson State University in the 1950s.
His JSU teams compiled a record of 340-72. After he moved into administration, he ascended to the role of president at Norfolk State University in 1975. During his tenure, Norfolk State transitioned from Division II to Division I.
Wilson is the grandfather of Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.
