PLEASANT GROVES, AL – Six of the nine starters registered at least two hits as the Kentucky State University softball team pounded out 15 hits in completing the three-game Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference sweep of Miles College Sunday.
Freshman
Olivia Saylor (Lancaster, KY) tied a career-high with three hits, going 3-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI. It was the third time this season, Saylor registered three knocks in a game. Freshman
Olivia Steward (Salem, IN) was the only player with multiple RBI, driving in a pair of runs with a two-run single in the third inning.
Senior
Jackie Zubiate (Riverside, CA) connected on her SIAC-leading 11th homerun to go along with her team-high 13th double in going 2-for-4. Senior
Natalia Bocanegra (Covina, CA) was 2-for-5 with a double and run scored, senior
Jittaun Thompson (Pomona, CA) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, and sophomore
Moana Pinner (Hilo, HI) was 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and an RBI.
Senior
Paola Flores, 13-12, (San Lorenzo, PR) earned the victory, allowing three earned runs on eight hits in seven innings of action with four strikeouts.
Kentucky State took the early lead with a run in the second inning, and then added to the lead with a four-spot in the third inning. After adding a single run in the fourth, the Thorobreds busted the game open with three runs in the sixth inning.
The Thorobreds await the official bracket for the upcoming Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The tournament begins Thursday in Albany, GA.
