CINCINNATI, OH - The Kentucky State University baseball team scored in six of their nine at-bats while pounding out 14 hits to secure the series victory over Cedarville with the 10-3 non-conference win Tuesday at the Reds Youth Academy.

It marked a homecoming of sorts for a trio of KSU players as freshman Solomon Reed (Cincinnati, OH), sophomore Byron Famble (Cincinnati, OH) and junior Vashawn Phillips (Cincinnati, OH) led the Cincinnati Reds RBI team, whose home field is at the Academy, to the program's first trip to the RBI World Series.

The two teams split a doubleheader in Frankfort in late February with KSU falling in the first game, 6-4, and winning the second contest, 6-0.

A two-run triple by senior Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) gave the Thorobreds the lead in the top of the first inning, and then he scored on a throwing error to make it 3-0. Senior Bryan Wilson (Chattanooga, TN) hit his second homer of the season, a three-run blast to make it 6-0 in the third inning.

Another long ball, this one by senior Russell Sims (Harrodsburg, KY), made it 7-0, and then another run crossed the plate on a RBI single by freshman Dakota Dull (Owensboro, KY).

Cedarville tallied two runs, one unearned, in the fifth and the Yellow Jackets wrapped the scoring with a single run in the eighth.
Sophomore Adren Thompson (Lexington, KY) scored on a balk in the seventh, and junior Brandon Mason (Chattanooga, TN) connected on his first career homer in the eighth.

Junior Jacob Kelly, 1-1, (Shepherdsville, KY) picked up the victory, allowing no runs on two hits in three innings of work as KSU designated the game as a staff day. Reed allowed two runs, one earned, on two hits in two innings, while Mason struck out five in three innings and yielded one earned run on two hits. Freshman Josh Graves (Springfield, KY) struck out one in his lone inning of work.

Sims finished the day 3-for-4 with a homerun, while Thompson was 3-for-5 with a double and three runs scored. Ransom added a 2-for-4 performance with two run scored and two RBI.

Kentucky State (21-14-1) returns to the diamond 6 p.m. Wednesday with a non-conference game against Asbury. Kentucky State beat the Eagles 13-8 on March 11 and 8-6 on April 3.
