Another split for Softball

For the fourth straight doubleheader, the Kentucky State University softball team split a twinbill by winning the first game and losing the nightcap.

GAME ONE: KENTUCKY STATE 7, MIDWAY 4
Six straight two-out batters reached as the Thorobreds tallied five runs in the bottom of the third inning to seize a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Back-to-back singles by seniors Natalia Bocanegra (Covina, CA) and Jackie Zubiate (Riverside, CA) got the inning going, but consecutive lineouts threatened to short circuit the inning. However, freshman Olivia Saylor (Lancaster, KY) beat out an infield single and sophomore Kailen Olison (Moreno Valley, CA) drew a bases loaded walk to push across a run.

Sophomore Sidney Campbell (Ashland, KY) doubled home a pair of runs and junior Katie Barter (Louisville, KY) capped the scoring with a single.
Midway took an early lead with two unearned runs in the first and another tally in the second before KSU answered.

Senior Paola Flores, 11-9, (San Lorenzo, PR) allowed just one earned runs on three hits over seven innings of work. She added three strikeouts with no walks.
Junior Sasha Allen (West Covina, CA) registered her fourth game with at least three hits, going 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI. Bocanegra added two hits in three at-bats with a run scored.

GAME TWO: MIDWAY 10, KENTUCKY STATE 1 (5 INN)
Kentucky State committed five errors, leading to eight unearned runs, as Midway scored five runs in the second and five more in the fifth for the victory.

Back-to-back doubles by senior Jittaun Thompson (Pomona, CA) and sophomore Moana Pinner (Hilo, HI) tallied KSU's lone run in the fourth inning. Three of Kentucky State's four hits were doubles as Olison doubled in the second.

Freshman Katelyn Hurley, 5-4, (Elizabeth, IN) allowed 10 runs (two earned) on 10 hits with two strikeouts and two walks.

Kentucky State (18-18) returns to action with a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference three-game series with West Division leading Spring Hill. The series begins Friday with a doubleheader and a seven-inning game on Sunday.
