Late inning run explosion boosts 'Breds

WILMORE, KY – The Kentucky State University baseball team exploded for 12 of their 13 runs over the final five innings to record the 13-8 non-conference victory over Asbury College Monday.

Trailing 4-1, Kentucky State began to march back with a three-run fifth inning.

Senior Russell Sims (Harrodsburg, KY) picked up an RBI, singling home senior Artie Santomo (Florence, KY). Sophomore Dom Lawson (Bloomfield, KY) drew a base loaded walk, and then senior Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) pulled KSU to within a run with a sacrifice fly, and a senior Jordan Ransom (Ringgold, GA) knotted the game at four with an RBI single.

Kentucky State took advantage of a couple Asbury errors to score three runs in the sixth inning. Senior Bryan Wilson (Chattanooga, TN) added an RBI single in the inning.

Kevin Givhan II (Chicago, IL) capped a five-run ninth inning with a two-out, two-run single. The Thorobreds scored four of their runs in the inning with two outs.

Lawson finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored, while Sims and Givhan II added two hits and two RBI. Senior Cam Starks (Alpharetta, GA) had his 15-game hitting streak, stretching back to 2018, come to an end. He opened the season with a hit in the first 12 games of the season.

Junior Greg Tye (Knoxville, TN) earned the victory, hurling three innings of two-hit, one-run relief. He walked three and struck out for in the out.
