COMPLETE GAME RECAP
It was an historic night, highlighted by a couple of returns, as the Kentucky State University women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 79-73 victory over Oakland City University Friday in non-conference action at the William Exum Center.
SeniorÂ
Brooke Wallace (Oberlin, OH), who has missed the last two games, returned to action to record just the second triple-double in Kentucky State women's basketball history with 23 points, 11 rebounds and a career-high 10 steals.
It also marked the return to the sidelines for head coachÂ
Terrance Slater, who hasn't coached since late November.
Junior forwardÂ
Jessie Kee (Indianapolis, IN) finished with career-high 23 points and 12 rebounds for her second career double-double. She added a career-high six assists. Junior forwardÂ
Kiante Butts (Memphis, TN) continued her torrid play, notching her fourth consecutive double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Junior guardÂ
Amani Williams (Scotch Plains, NJ) finished with 10 points and six assists in the Thorobreds' victory.
Kentucky State got off to a sluggish start, and only led by four points at the break.
That all changed after halftime as the Thorobreds tallied almost as many points (30) in the third quarter as they did in the first half (32).
Over a span of a shade over two minutes, Kentucky State exploded offensively. The Thorobreds scored 14 straight points during the game-changing stretch, forcing four turnovers and the Mighty Oaks missed both of their shots. The run extended to 23-3 through the remainder of the half, and KSU led by 25 at the end of the third quarter.
Oakland City opened the fourth quarter by scoring 20 of the first 25 points to give the Mighty Oaks a breath of life, trimming the deficit to five points. However, a couple of stops and the ability to connect on seven of 10 from the foul line enabled KSU to seal the victory.
