Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Regionally-ranked Tigers upend KSU

The Kentucky State University women's basketball team fell to regionally-ranked Benedict Monday, 73-45, in Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action in the William Exum Center. (Post game comments)

With the loss, the Thorobreds fell to 4-6 overall, 1-2 SIAC, while Benedict improved to 8-2 overall, 3-1 SIAC.

Kentucky State hung around with the Tigers for most of the first quarter, but eventually the Benedict depth weighed on the short-handed 'Breds. The Tigers limited KSU to just four second-quarter points and a 9-0 run over a five-minute stretch in the second quarter pushed the lead to double figures, and it wouldn't get under 10 for the rest of the game.

The Thorobreds shot just 31.8 percent (14-of-44) from the field, 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from three-point range and 44.8 percent (13-of-29) from the foul line.

Senior Victoria Blankenship (Fayetteville, N.C.) was the lone KSU player in double figures with 11 points, reaching double digits for the sixth time this season. It marks the fourth time in the last five games she has achieved the feat. Senior Carnethia Brown (Louisville, Ky.) added nine points, six rebounds and two assists.

Senior Jessie Kee (Indianapolis, Ind.) pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Kentucky State returns to action 5:30 p.m. Thursday, traveling to Albany State for a SIAC road game.
