GAME NOTES

SERIES HISTORY: Kentucky State has won just two of the last 14 meetings against the Maroon Tigers. The last Thorobreds victory was a 44-0 win on November 9, 2013.

ABOUT MOREHOUSE COLLEGE: The Maroon Tigers (1-3) is coming off a 17-10 loss to Savannah State.

Preseason Offensive Player of the Week Santo Dunn hasn't quite got on track for Morehouse this season. He is 10th in the SIAC in rushing with just 210 yards on 49 carries (52.50 yards per game). However, he leads the team with 23 receptions and is second on the team with 134 yards and one touchdown.

Morehouse brings a two-headed monster at signal caller with juniors Jaylen Brown and Michael Sims. Brown has been the more productive of the two quarterbacks with 558 yards on 46-of-74 passing (62.2 percent) with five touchdowns and three interceptions. Sims is 44-of-69 (63.8 percent) for 428 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions.

Senior receiver Tremell Gooden is the biggest Morehouse aerial threat with 334 yards on 18 carries and a team-high four touchdowns.

Defensively, Morehouse is tied for the team lead with five interceptions with Dedrick Vanover and Macaiah Paige hauling in two picks each.

Senior Jonathan Mathis leads the SIAC with 45 tackles, 20 solos and 25 assists, while Demetris Lofton has been a force in opposing backfields with 11 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks.

ALL IN THE FAMILY: Kentucky State has two set of siblings donning the green and gold this season with Israel and Isaac Fields, and Elijah and Xavier Johnson.

TICK, TICK, TICK: Using the triple option offense, the Thorobreds have done a phenomenal job of maintaining possession. In fact, Kentucky State is currently second nationally in time of possession - holding the ball for 35:49. Division II leader Eastern New Mexico possesses the ball for 37:12.

NEW LOOK THOROBREDS: The Kentucky State University two-deep looks drastically different from the one that ended the 2018 campaign.
Only seven student-athletes of the 44 listed in the two-deep roster have even played a snap for Kentucky State prior to the start of the season.

THREE STRAIGHT: Redshirt sophomore Jaylen Myers is the third different quarterback to start a season opener for Kentucky State. Myers, a transfer from Gardner Webb, earned the nod over senior Dennis Bryant, Jr.
Myers is second on the team with 235 yards on 36 attempts for a robust 6.5 yards per carry and one touchdown. He is 7-of-21 for 135 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

PERK(INS) UP: Sophomore Andrew Perkins has risen steadiy up the depth chart since the beginning of fall practice, and finds his place in the starting lineup.
He proved his worth in the victory over Jackson State with eight tackles and two pass breakups. On the season, he leads the team with 13 total tackles and is tied for the team lead with eight solo stops.

KICKER K.O: Junior kicker Mahireyya Kao (pronounced K.O.) is tied for third in the SIAC in forced fumbles.

RETURN SPECIALISTS: Kentucky State is seventh nationally, and second in the SIAC, in kick return averaging 28.60 yards per return. Individually, redshirt junior Brett Sylve is sixth nationally, and second in the SIAC, averaging 35.8 per return.

FINALLY: After having a pair of defensive touchdowns called back in the Tuskegee game, junior Jacob Abrams stripped the ball carrier, and returned the fumble 32-yards for a touchdown that proved to be the winning points after Jackson State attempted to mount a fourth-quarter comeback in the Circle City Classic
