THE LAST MEETING: Kentucky State University dropped its first SIAC game of the season on the oad to Morehouse College 31-21, on September 30, 2017 at B.T. Harvey Stadium.
   Sophomore running back
Brett Sylve proved to be the pulse for the offense accounting for 199 all-purpose yards, 80 rushing yards, and two touchdowns. For the third time in five games, the Hammond, Louisiana native ran back a special teams touchdown on a punt return in the second quarter.
   Junior linebacker
Andre Miles cause problems all afternoon for the Maroon Tigers, picking up 12 tackles, three tackles for a loss, one sack, and one interception.

THE LAST GAME: Playing in a constant rain, the Kentucky State University football team never got on track Saturday as they opened up Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play with a 24-6 loss to rival Central State at Alumni Stadium.
Central State dominated time of possession, holding the ball for more than 40 minutes of the 60-minute game. A proficient running attack was the primary reason for the ball-controlling offense as Kentucky State allowed 226 yards on 55 attempts.
Early on that wasn't the case.
The Thorobreds came out blazing on defense, forcing turnovers in each of their first two possessions. Junior
Diego Lewis (Pompano Beach, FL) forced a fumble on Central State's first possession, and then senior
Keonte Reynolds (Louisville, KY) recorded his first interception of the season.
Unfortunately, a dropped touchdown pass and subsequent missed field goal kept the game scoreless following the Mauraders' second possession.
The defensive stop seemingly brought the Central State offense to life as they drove 80 yards on 10 plays to claim the lead with a 17-yard touchdown.
   KSU quickly responded as
Jules St. Ge (Lakeland, FL) capped a seven-play, 56-yard drive with a 13 yard run on the first play of the second quarter. But, a missed PAT allowed Central State to maintain its lead.
NEW LOOK OFFENSE: Under new offensive coordinator,
Ken Ackerman, Kentucky State University is second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, averaging 166.8 rushing yards per contest.
However, the rushing attack has been slowed over the last two games. averaging just 76.5 yards in losses to Kentucky Wesleyan and Central State.  Â
SPECIAL TEAMS STANDOUT: Senior kicker/punter
Turner Warren has been brilliant this season, and he was awarded with SIAC Special Team Player of the Week honors after his performance against the Mauraders.
He punted seven times for an average of 42.7 yards, landing three of his punts inside the 20. On the season, he is leading the conference with an average of 40.9 yards and has landed eight of his 23 punts inside the 20. Additionally, Warren has three punts of more than 50 yards this season.
CROWN JULES: After sitting out last season, quarterback
Jules St. Ge returned to the gridiron looking better than ever. The redshirt sophomore is converting 65.9 percent of his passes (54-of-82) with two touchdowns and three interceptions. He is also leading the team with 235 yards rushing.
As the starting quarterback two seasons ago, he completed just 47 percent of his attempts (83-of-175) for 986 yards and seven touchdowns. He threw for eight interceptions.
MIA: Kentucky State will be without the services of junior running back
Brett Sylve, who suffered a season-ending injury in the first game of the season. He gained 146 yards on 20 carries before going down against Slippery Rock. Juniors
Tyrone Wilkerson,
Michael Nero and
Malik Saunders will all be asked to pick up the slack.
Nero, on the least amount of carries, has the highest average with 7.7 yards per attempt. Saunders has 93 yards in four games as the top rushing threat from the tailback position.
MILES AHEAD: Senior defensive end
Andre Miles led the team with 64 tackles despite missing the last two games of the 2017 season.
Miles returned to action, after missing the first three games of the season, and finished with an assisted tackle in his debut.
CAMPBELL'S SOUP: Senior offensive lineman Marcus Campbell enters the season with a rare opportunity to earn All-SIAC honors for the entirety of his career. He earned second team honors in 2017 after playing every single offensive snap through the first nine games.
PRESEASON POLLS: In a vote of Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) head coaches and sports information directors, the Kentucky State Thorobreds were picked to finish third in the West Division, earning one first-place vote.
Reigning SIAC champion Tuskegee was picked to win the division, followed by Miles, KYSU, Central State and Lane.
Albany State was predicted to claim the East Division crown, earning seven of the 10 first-place votes. Following ASU was Benedict, Fort Valley State, Morehouse and Clark.
