Game Notes)
THE TEAMS: Kentucky State is 2-0 after winning a pair of games in the Theresa A. Cheek Tip-Off Classic. The Thorobreds held double-digit leads in both games before holding off late rallies to beat Wilberforce (60-58) and Salem (82-79).
Campbellsville Harrodsburg is a first year program, and is 1-1 on the young season. The Cougars went 7-4 in their preseason games, including an 86-59 loss to Kentucky State.
THE COACHES: Terrance Slater is in his third season as the head coach, and fifth season with the program. The Thorobreds are 22-33 in his tenure as a head coach. He led Kentucky State to the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference semifinals a season ago.
While head coach Brian Tribble is in his first season with the Cougars, he brings more than 20 years of coaching throughout the state of Kentucky. In addition to his college coaching duties, Tribble runs the Lexington Celtics Youth Basketball Organization and The Celtics Elite AAU.
THE PLAYERS: Senior center
Brooke Wallace is averaging a double-double after two games with 14.5 points and 13 rebounds, including a 19-rebounds effort against Wilberforce. Junior
Jessie Kee has been a force off the bench with 13.5 points and six rebounds, while senior
Tara Jefferson is adding 12.0 points and 7.5 rebounds. Sophomore
Erica Jones is leading the team with 8.0 rebounds, while sophomore
Khaliah Herbert has dished out a team-high seven assists. Â
In their season opening victory over Penn State Fayette, six players scored at least 13 points, led by Oriona Woods' 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Makayla Smith added 16 points, while the trio of Curtshonna Cannon, Zariah Kavanaugh and Nia Sheckles finished with 14 points each. Alyssa Roberts tallied 13 points in the win.
