Volleyball Continues to Roll with 3-0 Sweep of KCU

Frankfort, Ky— Kentucky State University volleyball surpassed Kentucky Christian University with a strong 3-0 performance on Friday night at the Exum Center.

The Thorobrettes (21-11, 13-4) continue to build up steam winning four of their last five matches as they prepare for the SIAC Championship Tournament set for mid-November. The Lady Knights (24-4) had their four-game winning streak end, dropping only their second game over their last 14.

Each set proved to be a challenge as KCU kept each set within five or fewer points, accounting for numerous rallies throughout the evening. KSU outscored KCU 51-26 and were plus 18 in kills, 39-21.

Freshman outside hitter Makayla Martin led the Thorobrettes in kills with 13 and marked the 12th time she has picked up double-digit kills to lead the team, only freshman outside hitter Robin Poole has recorded over five, as she currently sits with nine. Martin ranks in the top-10 in the SIAC in kills with 293 for first overall in total strikes, but No. 10 in kills per set with 2.6.

Sophomore setter Hannah Smyers picked up 28 assists to lead the team, putting at No. 4 in the SIAC in assists with 898 and 7.95 per set.

KSU will have two matches remaining in the regular season including Senior Night on Nov. 7. The Thorobrettes will be back in action on Thursday, Nov. 2 when they head to Central State University. First, serve is scheduled for 6 pm ET.
