Frankfort, Ky – Kentucky State University volleyball lost in three sets (25-18, 25-20, 25-23) to the University of the Cumberlands in a "Throwback Thursday" match at Bell Gymnasium Thursday night.

Senior outside hitter Tahje Ochs smashed a team-high seven kills and recorded ten digs while senior setter Anjelique Kyle dished out a team-high 20 assists for the Thorobrettes.

The Thorobrettes (14-15) fell to an early deficit in the first set, trailing to the visiting Patriots 2-0 before quickly tying the set back up at two. After a 12-6 run from UC midway through the frame, KSU bounced back to cut the lead to just three off a four-point rally to trail 14-12. The Thorobrettes couldn't maintain their momentum, ultimately dropping the set 25-18.

KSU trailed early again 2-0 in the second set before scoring six straight points, nailing four aces on five serving attempts to take its first lead of the match at 6-2. Following a Patriots timeout, the visiting squad tied the set up again at six, scoring four straight points including a service ace of their own. The visiting squad continued their run, netting three more points to take a 9-6 lead. Following a KSU timeout, the Patriots extended their lead to 11-7 before the Thorobrettes went on yet another run, scoring three straight points to tie the set up again at 11 and force a second UC timeout. The action continued to be back-and-forth before KSU tied the set again at 18. KSU were outscored by UC 7-2 to lose the second set 25-20.

The Thorobrettes' continued to fight, taking an early 2-1 lead over the visitors before quickly trailing 7-4. KSU battled back, later on, going on a five-point run to tie the set up at nine. After eight lead changes, KSU trailed 19-17 before calling a timeout. The Thorobrettes took the lead 20-19, following a 3-0 scoring run. The Patriots tied the set again at 20 before KSU scored to take a 21-20 lead. The Thorobrettes were unable to maintain the lead as they would be outscored 5-2 to lose the third and final set of the night.  

The Thorobrettes' next matchup will be a non-conference bout as they travel Trevecca Nazarene University on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m.
