Thorobrettes fall 3-0 at Asbury

Box Score WILMORE, Ky. -- The Kentucky State volleyball team dropped a hard-fought road match at Asbury on Saturday, falling 3-0 to the Eagles.

Though Asbury took all three sets, all were closely contested, with the Thorobrettes falling 25-23, 25-21, and 25-20.

Kentucky State spent most of the first set pulling its way back from an early deficit after falling behind 12-3. The Thorobrettes were still trailing 23-16 late in the set when they went on a 7-1 run to pull within one at 24-23. Unfortunately for the Thorobrettes, it was as close as they would get, with Asbury scoring the final point to close out the set.

The second and third sets were both closely contested throughout, with Asbury pulling away at the end of each. Neither team held a lead of more than four in either set until Asbury scored five straight to close out the third set. Asbury came up big at end of the second set as well, scoring the final two points to close out the set after Kentucky State cut the margin to 23-21.

Tahje Ochs led the Thorobrettes with 10 kills, while Kirtrice Ploucha and Micah Rogers tallied seven and six respectively. Anjelique Kyle had team-highs of 24 assists, two aces and 10 digs. Rogers and Kiera Rivera also picked up 10 digs each.

The loss drops Kentucky State to 6-2 overall on the season, while Asbury improves to 10-7. The Thorobrettes are back in action in their home opener on Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Exum Center.
