Box Score 4 BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Kentucky State volleyball team got off to a hot start in its 2015 season by sweeping all six of its matches in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference West Division Cluster on Friday and Saturday at the Birmingham Crossplex.
The Thorobrettes, who enter 2015 after finishing as the SIAC runner-up a year ago, dropped just two sets across the six matches. On Friday, Kentucky State opened play with a 3-1 (25-6, 25-17, 19-25, 25-16) win over Tuskegee, then followed it up with a 3-1 (21-25, 25-16, 25-15, 25-22) win over Spring Hill, which had handed the Thorobrettes their only two regular season conference losses in 2014.
Kentucky State went on to sweep its next four matches by the score of 3-0. The Thorobrettes closed out Friday by defeating LeMoyne-Owen 25-10, 25-19, 25-18, and opened Saturday by downing Lane 25-9, 25-10, 25-15. In the final two matches, Kentucky State defeated Stillman 25-19, 25-22, 25-9, and topped Miles 25-12, 25-13, 25-16.
"We are glad to have a good start, but we still have a lot of hard work to do," said Kentucky State head coach
Christina Coleman. "It's great to start out 6-0 in the conference, but we still have to build off of it going forward. We're still more focused on how we finish and our goal of winning a conference championship."
Now holding a 6-0 overall record and a 6-0 SIAC mark, the Thorobrettes will play their first non-conference match of the season when they travel to face Bellarmine at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in Louisville, Ky. The Thorobrettes will open their home schedule when they host Trevecca Nazarene on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at the Exum Center at 7 p.m.
