Box Score WILBERFORCE, Ohio – The Kentucky State volleyball team capped its regular season with a 3-0 victory in a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match at rival Central State on Wednesday.
Led by Payton Richardson, who had a match-high 13 kills and a hitting percentage of .800, the Thorobrettes cruised to the victory by scores of 25-10, 25-11, and 25-11 while hitting .525 as a team. Richardson was just one of three Kentucky State players who hit better than .500 in the match, with Tahje Ochs hitting .545 with eight kills and Micah Rogers hitting .545 with six kills.
The Thorobrettes wasted no time in getting started, jumping out to a 17-3 lead in the first set, at one point winning nine straight points with four straight kills by Richardson. After closing out the first set, the second set played out similarly, with Kentucky State getting out to an 11-3 lead and holding on for the win. In the third set, the Thorobrettes used a 10-1 run to take control, turning a 6-4 lead into a 16-5 advantage.
Anjelique Kyle led all players with 26 assists, while Kiara Rivera led Kentucky State with four digs. Kirtrice Ploucha also contributed seven kills with a block and a block assist.
Kentucky State wraps up the regular season at 21-12 overall and 19-1 in SIAC play with the victory, while Central State drops to 4-25 on the season with a 4-16 record in the conference. The Thorobrettes finish the season tied atop the SIAC West Division standings with Spring Hill, each team finishing with a 19-1 SIAC record and splitting the regular season series head-to-head. The SIAC Tournament begins next Wednesday in Birmingham, Ala.
